Full title: Memoir of the Rev. William. C. Burns, M.A., Missionary to China from the English Presbyterian Church (5th edn), by Islay Burns (1870).

Rev William Burns was one of the first Westerners to step foot on Swatow before it officially became a treaty port in 1860. A forced deportation by local officials in 1856 did not deter him from  becoming probably the foreigner to be stationed in the Teochew Prefecture. Several letters he wrote until he left for Amoy in 1858 are contained in this book.
