Traditional Teochew-style houses are also distinguished by their beautiful gable ("the triangular upper part of a wall at the end of a ridged roof"), called Cu Gag Tao (厝角頭), literally "corner of the house") in Teochew, which take the shape of one of the five elements: gold 金, wood 木, water 水, fire 火 and earth 土.
